Waste Materials Become One-of-a-Kind Treasures! SDGs Workshop Held at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens 'Spring Festival'

Open House Nagoya Branch, a group company of Open House Group Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Ryosuke Fukuoka), held the "Carpenter Experience with Waste Materials!? Making Original Wooden (Key) Holders with Colorful Nail Art" workshop at the "76th Nagoya City Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens Spring Festival" on Saturday, April 25th and Sunday, April 26th, 2026.

Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a place where many endangered animals are exhibited, and visitors can learn about the preciousness of life. Our company planned this event with the desire for children, who will lead the next generation, to feel closer to the SDGs through upcycling initiatives that breathe new life into "construction waste materials" that inevitably arise during the home-building process. In this workshop, we prepared wood designed with a "giraffe" motif, which is the main visual of the Spring Festival. Children challenged themselves to create one-of-a-kind original keychains by hammering colorful nails to resemble giraffe patterns.

Carpenter-like Nail Hammering Experience
"Nail hammering guides" were used to ensure that even small children could work safely and smoothly. It was very impressive to see the children, holding hammers they rarely get to touch, earnestly hammering nails one by one. Exclamations of surprise like "Wood that was supposed to be thrown away can become so cute!" were heard, and scenes of parents and children happily discussing environmental protection and effective resource utilization were seen everywhere.

Our company will continue activities that leverage our perspective as a construction company. We will deepen exchanges with local communities and contribute to the vibrancy of the city and the creation of a sustainable society.
