AUCNET INC. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shinichiro Fujisaki; hereinafter 'AUCNET'), a circular market design company, has renewed the battery trading service of its distribution platform 'Energy Loop Terminal' for repurposed products utilizing used EV (Electric Vehicle) lithium-ion batteries (hereinafter 'EV batteries'). Along with the renewal of the 'Energy Loop Terminal' trading service, AUCNET is also launching a standalone diagnostic service based on the battery diagnosis jointly developed with MIRAI-LABO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hachioji-shi, Tokyo; President: Toshio Hiratsuka; hereinafter 'MIRAI-LABO').

This diagnosis rapidly and quantitatively visualizes the State of Health (SOH) of a battery in its module state (where the battery pack is removed from the EV and disassembled one step). This makes it possible to address diverse needs purely for diagnosis, going beyond the use of conventional battery trading services, and establishes an evaluation infrastructure system for the secondary use and repurposing of EV batteries.

■ Background to the Renewal of 'Energy Loop Terminal' Trading Service and Launch of Diagnostic Service

16 years have passed since the launch of the Nissan Leaf, and the demand for reuse and recycling of used EV batteries is expanding. On the other hand, because the condition and value of batteries depend on limited information such as appearance and mileage, objective and quantitative evaluation has been difficult, posing challenges to the transparency of distribution and the efficiency of transactions.

To address these challenges, AUCNET built a distribution infrastructure for EV batteries, while MIRAI-LABO handled the development of degradation diagnosis technology, thereby promoting the 'Energy Loop Terminal', a distribution platform for repurposed products using used EV batteries.

During this process, needs emerged from repurpose product manufacturers and vehicle dismantlers, who said, 'Regardless of whether we trade or not, we first want to accurately know the value of the batteries we hold,' or 'We want to use only the diagnosis without a transaction.'

To respond to these needs and market demands, we carried out a site renewal to enhance the visualization of listed items and degradation diagnosis data, improving transaction transparency and facilitating smooth trading. Simultaneously, we prepared the 'Diagnostic Service' as an independent service package. Last July, we achieved a diagnostic time of less than 5 minutes per module, which previously took more than 24 hours manually. We launched the diagnostic service aiming to create a starting point for battery circulation by building a system where all stakeholders can easily utilize diagnostic technology.

■ 'Energy Loop Terminal' Service Overview

● Battery Trading Service
- Battery trading service provided by AUCNET
- Enables transactions at the battery pack/module level, promoting distribution
- Linked with degradation diagnosis results, realizing highly transparent transactions

● Battery Diagnostic Service
- Jointly researched and developed by AUCNET and MIRAI-LABO
- High-speed (under 5 minutes per module) and high-precision performance/degradation (SOH) diagnosis of EV batteries using a proprietary impedance*1 measurement method
- Reduces uncertainty during trading, supports planning/manufacturing of repurposed products, and enables utilization in a wide range of scenes

〇 Diagnostic Target
- Battery type: EV (Electric Vehicle) lithium-ion battery
- Inspection format: Module unit (battery pack removed from vehicle and disassembled one step)
- Supported manufacturer/model: Nissan / Leaf

〇 Diagnostic Function
- SOH diagnosis using impedance*1, etc.

〇 Diagnostic Capacity
- 10,000 modules per year

*1 Impedance: A concept in electrical circuits indicating the difficulty of current flow in an alternating current circuit.

Through this service, we provide the following value in EV battery distribution:
- Improvement of transaction transparency by visualizing listed items and diagnostic data
- Streamlining of trading through decision-making based on quantitative data rather than intuition or experience
- Lowering the hurdle for market participation in used batteries by clarifying evaluation criteria
- Responding to diverse utilization needs such as dismantling, manufacturing, and energy management, in addition to trading via standalone use of the diagnostic service

This will support the facilitation of EV battery distribution and market revitalization.
