"Microwave" Search Volume Skyrockets in Summer!

On "DELISH KITCHEN," the search frequency for "microwave/range" tends to increase, peaking in July-August every year. In August 2025, searches increased approximately 1.3 times compared to May of the same year. Furthermore, the search frequency for "microwave" in the summer has been rising year by year, indicating a growing demand for microwave recipes.

Top Summer Cooking Concern: "Using the stove makes the kitchen hot"

In response to these search data results, "DELISH KITCHEN" conducted a survey targeting its users about "summer cooking."

When asked about concerns during summer cooking, the most common answer was "Using the stove makes the kitchen hot" (64%), highlighting the issue of heat from stove cooking in the summer.

91% Use Microwave for Summer Cooking; Side Dishes Most Common.

Next, when asked about the frequency of microwave use, the total of "frequently use" and "occasionally use" reached 91%, showing that many users incorporate microwave cooking in the summer. Regarding what they currently cook often in the microwave, "side dishes" were the most common at 75%. However, when asked what they want to try in the future, "main dishes" were the most frequent. This suggests a need not just for "one more dish" but to complete daily main meal preparation using the microwave.

About 60% Have Experienced Microwave Cooking Failures; "Uneven Heating" is the Top Failure.

Following this, a survey was conducted on failure experiences and concerns regarding microwave cooking. Regarding microwave cooking failure experiences, approximately 60% of users responded that they "have experienced failures" ("often" 7%, "sometimes" 52%). The most common failure scenarios were "uneven heating" and "overcooking, resulting in dryness or toughness."

Regarding concerns about microwave cooking, half of respondents felt "concerned" ("often" 14%, "sometimes" 36%). The top concern was "uneven heating" (77%), followed by "uncertainty about heating time guidelines" (61%), and "worry about taste" (47%).

Deputy Editor Explains! "3 Key Points for Successful Microwave Cooking"

1 How you cover with plastic wrap affects the result

While microwave heating is convenient, it can also lead to issues like food drying out or uneven heating. The key is to "loosely cover with plastic wrap" and "ensure the edges of the wrap are sealed tightly to the dish." Loosely covering creates an escape route for steam, preventing the wrap from tearing or boiling over. Sealing the wrap edges tightly to the dish helps retain moisture in the food and reduces uneven heating. For dishes where you want to reduce moisture, it's best to heat without wrapping.

2 "Check as you go" is the golden rule for heating time

The heating time indicated in recipes is just a guideline. Heating results vary depending on the size of the ingredients and the microwave's wattage. Instead of heating for a long time at once, check the progress midway and add more heating time as needed. Also, to prevent boiling over, choose heat-resistant containers with ample capacity.

3 Pay attention to how ingredients are arranged and oriented

Arrange ingredients in a single layer without overlapping as much as possible to ensure even heating throughout. Matching the thickness and size of ingredients is also a key point for eliminating uneven heating.

"No-Heat Recipe Feature" Released

From search data and user surveys, it's clear that many people want to avoid using heat for cooking in the summer. Therefore, "DELISH KITCHEN" has released a recipe feature that includes microwave-only recipes and other recipes that can be cooked without heat.
