'Domestic Cotton Revival Project' to grow cotton together with Sunahama Museum
Avanti was founded in 1985, began importing organic raw cotton in 1990, and has continuously manufactured organic cotton products. Under the current circumstances where 'clothing textile self-sufficiency rate is almost 0%' in Japan, to change this reality even slightly, we set goals: [Raise Japan's zero textile self-sufficiency rate to 1%], [Use 2% of cotton produced in this project for Pristine products by 2030, and further increase the usage rate of domestic cotton and recycled materials to 50% by 2050]. We are taking initiatives not only to manufacture organic cotton yarn, fabric, and products but also to produce the raw materials ourselves.
Triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake, we started the 'Domestic Cotton Revival Project' mainly in Fukushima from 2012. Since 2021, for full-scale domestic cotton cultivation, we launched the 'Avanti Cotton Club' and continue activities in cooperation with people all over the country.
The domestic cotton cultivation, which started at 8 locations, is expanding year by year, and in the 2025 cultivation, 780kg of cotton was harvested at 41 locations. Avanti purchased it as a raw material. Members of the Avanti Cotton Club work together with diverse people, including farmers, welfare workshops, companies, commercial facilities, schools, and the NPO Sunahama Museum. The sowing season has arrived for FY2026, and cotton making will begin at 43 locations nationwide.

'Cotton Bank', a mechanism for customers to participate in domestic cotton cultivation
From 2025, we started the 'Cotton Bank', a system where individuals can participate in domestic cotton cultivation. By collecting cotton grown by customers themselves or Pristine products that have finished their role, points are accumulated in a bankbook, and according to the number of points, they can be exchanged for products using domestic cotton.
By easily growing cotton on balconies, etc., and participating in the 'happy cycle of clothes', we provide an opportunity to think about the problem of textile self-sufficiency and the life of familiar clothes. Also, we hope that the carefully grown cotton will become part of Pristine products, deepening the connection with the brand and other fans, and contributing to the revitalization of cotton cultivation in various parts of Japan.
3,300 grams of domestic cotton gathered in the 2025 Cotton Bank!
This is the cotton deposited by customers in FY2025! We staff members were deeply moved when you brought in cotton carefully grown over the year on your balconies or alongside home vegetable gardens.
[FY2025 yield: 3,300 grams (deposit including seeds) = equivalent to 825 cotton bolls calculated at 4g each!]
It is a great joy that so much cotton, which weighs only about 5g for a large cotton boll and about 3-4g for a small one, has gathered. Toward the goal of domestic cotton revival, we hope to grow together with you again this year.
