Nishikido Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Representative Director: Hirokuni Otani), which manufactures and sells Japanese and Western confections, mainly Momiji Manju, in Hiroshima Prefecture, will release a renewed "Fumochi" on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Nishikido Signature Confection: Fumochi

"Fumochi" is a Japanese confection that has been loved by customers, mainly local Hiroshima residents, for over 40 years since its release in July 1985 (Showa 60). Its elegant flavor, with chewy fresh fu (wheat gluten cake) combined with aonori (sea lettuce) and wrapped in bamboo leaves, has garnered unchanging popularity for many years.

In this renewal, while maintaining the flavor that has been enjoyed for many years, the amount of aonori has been increased. By further enhancing the flavor of the fresh fu, the taste has been improved to allow customers to enjoy the oceanic aroma even more.

What Nishikido values in Fumochi is the anko (bean paste) making, cultivated over many years through Momiji Manju production. The rich anko, made from 100% Hokkaido-grown azuki beans, harmonizes with the flavor of aonori, enhancing the elegant taste.

Product Features

◆ Released in 1985. "Fumochi," loved for over 40 years Since its release in July 1985 (Showa 60), "Fumochi" has been a Japanese confection enjoyed for many years, primarily by local Hiroshima customers.

While preserving its unchanging deliciousness, we have reviewed its taste, ease of eating, and package design to allow more customers to enjoy it.

◆ Uses "Fresh Fu," a Traditional Japanese Ingredient Fresh fu, the star of "Fumochi," is a traditional Japanese ingredient made by boiling wheat gluten extracted from flour with mochi flour. It is said to have been introduced to Japan with Zen Buddhism during the Kamakura period and has been enjoyed in temple vegetarian cuisine and Kyoto cuisine.

By combining the chewy texture unique to fresh fu with aonori, and further wrapping it in bamboo leaves, you can enjoy its refreshing aroma and gentle flavor.

◆ Nishikido's Two Types of Specially Made Anko Two types of anko are available: smooth koshian (strained bean paste) and refreshing tsubuan (whole azuki bean paste) that allows you to enjoy the flavor of azuki beans. They are finished with Nishikido's special taste that enhances the flavors of fresh fu and aonori.

◆ Increased Aonori for a Richer Seaweed Aroma By increasing the amount of aonori, the taste has been improved to allow customers to experience the seaweed aroma even more, along with the chewy texture of the fresh fu. Additionally, the product size has been made slightly smaller, making it easier to eat.

◆ Renewed Package Design The package design has also been renewed to a more approachable and modern design, while retaining its traditional Japanese confectionary charm. The design makes it easy to choose for home consumption, as well as for souvenirs and gifts.
