Ukai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hachioji City, Tokyo; hereinafter 'Ukai'), which operates restaurants primarily in Tokyo and Kanagawa, will begin offering a new lunch utilizing its Gassho-zukuri building at its Irori charcoal-grill restaurant "Ukai Toriyama" exclusively on weekdays, starting Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
The Gassho-zukuri building, relocated from Gokayama in Etchu, is a special space that has been used primarily for group use and weddings until now. With the desire for more people to experience its charm and appeal, we will prepare a special lunch exclusively on weekdays.
The main dish of the meal is "Hoba-yaki," which has been loved for many years as a specialty of the kaiseki restaurant "Ukai Chikutei," which once shared a location with our restaurant at the foot of Mount Takao. In addition, you can enjoy seasonal delicacies from the countryside, such as handmade soba, tempura, and mugitoro (grated yam over barley rice). Also, before or after your meal, you are free to explore the exhibits on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Gassho-zukuri building.
Whether it's an opportunity for first-time customers to feel the worldview of our restaurant through the Gassho-zukuri and cuisine, or a special experience for our regular patrons, we invite you to spend a special moment in a serene space harmonized with nature.

Ukai Toriyama's "Gassho-zukuri"
The Gassho-zukuri traditional folk house, originally built in snowy Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture, was relocated in 1968, four years after the company's founding in 1964. At the time, it was realized out of the founder's desire to "bring the 'real thing' to Ukai Toriyama" as a form of hospitality for customers who travel deep into the mountains of Takao. The old folk house, carefully received on-site, was dismantled by the hands of many craftsmen, and its pillars and beams were transported over two days to the land of Takao. After that, it was reconstructed faithfully reproducing its original form. Since then, this building, commonly known as the "Front Gassho," has welcomed many customers as a symbol of our restaurant.

Surrounded by the lush nature of Takao, it is also used as a wedding venue.
The Gassho-zukuri encapsulates not only historical value but also the wisdom and culture of people nurtured in harsh natural environments. Even now, 60 years after its relocation, it has been carefully preserved and passed down, undergoing repairs to its thatched roof. One of its appeals is that, while being in Tokyo, you can experience up close the traditional architecture of Gassho-zukuri and the livelihoods of people passed down in mountainous regions.
