Shochiku Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Hiroshi Ida) has begun recruiting participants for the "Practical Short Film Production Workshop" with Director Taro Hyugaji as instructor, commemorating the release of "Shochiku Otona no Eigajuku" (Shochiku Adult Film Academy), a new platform for creators that opened on March 24, 2026 (Tuesday).

This is a super-practical workshop that goes beyond mere classroom learning, allowing participants to jump from being "viewers" to "creators." Under the guidance of Director Hyugaji, all participants will form a single team to create one short film from scratch. Even if you have no experience, you are most welcome, as long as you have a passion for cinema. We sincerely look forward to your challenge in filmmaking.

Three Joys of "Making a Film Together"

・ Crafting the script together:

From plot creation to script completion, participants will engage in close discussions to refine the story.

・ Sharing roles together:

Director, assistant director, camera assistant, sound assistant, production, and even acting. With strong support from professional technical staff (cinematography and sound) active on the front lines, participants will rotate and collaborate to handle all positions.

・ Running the set together:

From indoor shoots to outdoor locations, the team will overcome everything that happens on set, such as unexpected changes in light or city noise, and capture those moments on film.

Taro Hyugaji (Film Director) Profile

Born in Sendai City in 1965. After graduating from the Department of Cinema, Nihon University College of Art, he studied under directors such as Kazuo Kuroki. He made his feature film debut in 2005 with 'Dare ga Tame ni'. Since then, he has been known for his style that directly confronts fundamental themes of humanity and society. He has released works such as 'Grave of the Fireflies' (2008), which depicts the tragedy of war, and 'Kodomo Shokudo' (2019, winner of the Japan Catholic Film Award), which addresses contemporary difficulties. He has also been active in a wide range of fields, with his documentary 'Ikimono Kaneko Tota no Sekai' winning the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (Grand Prize) at the Educational Film Festival.
