Toho Gas Co., Ltd. (President: Satoshi Yamasaki) has undergone a major renovation of the "Toho Gas Gas Energy Museum" (hereinafter referred to as "Gas Energy Museum"), the first in 20 years since 2006, with the aim of further strengthening educational support for children who will lead the next generation and contributing to the development of the local community.
This renovation adds "Challenges in the Energy Field Towards Achieving Carbon Neutrality" as a new theme and revamps the museum into four story-driven zones. The design is intended to deepen understanding by following the flow of the exhibits, transforming the facility into one that can be enjoyed not only by students on school trips but also by general visitors.
New exhibits utilize digital technology and participatory content, allowing visitors to learn about carbon neutrality and other topics in an easy-to-understand and fun way.
We look forward to welcoming you to the newly renovated Gas Energy Museum!
New Theme of the Gas Energy Museum
Challenges in the Energy Field Towards Achieving Carbon Neutrality
Since its opening in November 1985, the Gas Energy Museum has been loved by approximately 1.3 million people in the community and children as an "experiential exhibition hall where you can learn about energy and the global environment by seeing, touching, and enjoying."
This major renovation, the first in 20 years, adds the new theme of "Challenges in the Energy Field Towards Achieving Carbon Neutrality" to the existing concept of "raising awareness of global warming issues, perceiving them as one's own responsibility, and learning about the global environment and energy centered on gas."
Main Features of the Renovation
The museum consists of a total of 17 exhibits, with a particular focus on enhancing content that allows visitors to learn about carbon neutrality, e-methane (methanation technology), and electricity (renewable energy) in a fun way.
Here are the new four zones and main exhibits that will captivate children!
〇 Zone 1 "Changing Global Environment"
Amidst the frequent occurrence of extreme weather and natural disasters caused by global warming, this zone poses the question of what will happen if global warming continues.
Plaza of Awareness
Touching the illustrations on the wall activates animations, allowing visitors to intuitively experience what is happening to the Earth.
Tell Me! Forest Microscope
Visitors learn about the importance of nature by understanding that nature has the power to absorb carbon dioxide.
〇 Zone 2 "Carbon Neutrality"
As global warming progresses due to the increase in greenhouse gases, this zone asks what can be done to achieve "carbon neutrality."
Let's Make e-Methane!
Visitors learn through experience about the mechanism of "methanation," a technology that captures carbon dioxide and converts it into energy.
Energy Forest Expedition Team
By moving and answering quizzes, visitors can understand the types, characteristics, and uses of energy.
〇 Zone 3 "Energy and Daily Life"
As the consumption of gas and electricity, which support a safe and secure life, increases, this zone asks how energy should be used from now on.
Energy Around Me
Through hands-on activities, visitors can learn about the energy that supports our lives and the concept of life cycle energy.
Cooking Challenge
This simulated cooking experience fosters enjoyment and familiarity with cooking with gas, while also introducing tips for environmentally friendly cooking.
〇 Zone 4 "Initiatives for the Future"
To continue living comfortably with energy while protecting the global environment, this zone asks what can be done for the future.
Everyone's Future Message
Visitors can share their thoughts and feelings from their visit to the Gas Energy Museum along with their own photos.
In addition to the four main zones, there is also an "Image Hall" where visitors can learn about global warming and the importance of energy through movies, and an "Experiment Studio" where they can learn about liquefied natural gas through liquid nitrogen experiments.
Museum Director's Comment
Takako Sakurai, Director of the Gas Energy Museum, Communication Group, Public Relations Department
"The challenges of the global environment are unavoidable themes for children who will bear the future. Our goal was not just to impart knowledge, but to create a place that inspires each individual to perceive these challenges as their own and to change their actions from tomorrow.
Because these are issues that can often feel difficult, positive learning through fun and surprise is essential. 'Know energy, and create a more exciting future!' We will operate with renewed determination to ensure that the experiences here become a force for shaping the future together with children.
Please visit the reborn Gas Energy Museum!"
Takako Sakurai, Director of the Gas Energy Museum
