Announcement of Establishment of "THVP Fund No. 3"

Tohoku University Venture Partners Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Aoba-ku, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture; President and CEO: Koji Sato; hereinafter "THVP") has established the THVP Fund No. 3 Investment Business Limited Partnership (hereinafter "THVP Fund No. 3"), with THVP as the general partner, and has completed its first closing.

To date, through the THVP Fund No. 1 Investment Business Limited Partnership established in 2015 and the THVP Fund No. 2 Investment Business Limited Partnership established in 2020, THVP has invested in and provided hands-on support to startups utilizing research results from Tohoku University, the Tohoku region, and national universities located in the surrounding Tohoku area.

THVP Fund No. 3 will further strengthen its role as a "bridge" to convert advanced academic research results into social value, leveraging its accumulated expertise. In today's highly uncertain society, innovative technologies originating from universities hold the key to solving social issues. This fund aims to ensure the social implementation of research results and drive the realization of a sustainable society and the revitalization of the regional economy by providing not only funding but also support for building management structures and hands-on assistance to seed and early-stage startups.

As for investment strategy, we will build an appropriate portfolio focusing on "materials science," "semiconductors," and "life sciences," areas where Tohoku University has strengths, with a focus on deep tech fields that bring about social transformation.

Currently, the limited partners include the anchor investor, Tohoku University, as a national university corporation, as well as Shin-Nippon Air Technologies Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation. Additional limited partners are expected to join in the future, with the aim of managing approximately 6 billion yen (up to 10 billion yen) in total.
