TOKYO MX (Tokyo Metropolitan Television Co., Ltd.) will broadcast the semifinals [Block A] of the "MX Grand Prix 2026: Eccentric Comedian Championship," an annual comedy competition that marks its second year, on July 5, 2026 (Sun) from 19:00 to 20:00.
We have received post-recording comments from the five judges. Hollywood Zakoshisho, Fujimoto Toshiyuki (FUJIWARA), Kukkii! (Yasei Bakudan), Noda Crystal (Magical Lovely), and Murakami (Magical Lovely) share their passionate comments on the "purity" of the competition, which sets it apart from other comedy awards, and their highly individual "comedy judging philosophies."
This program is a comedy award competition that seeks out stars among eccentric comedians who are nominated by others, not by themselves. From a total of 244 comedian applications, six semifinalists for [Block A] have been decided through rigorous auditions. The six acts competing for a spot in the live broadcast finals in September are: Bachov (Yoshimoto Kogyo), Kenjiru (Yoshimoto Kogyo), Exorcist (Watanabe Entertainment), Poko (Yoshimoto Kogyo), Inukonnection (Watanabe Entertainment), and last year's runner-up, Futotcho☆Cowboy (Raffine Pro).
Will the judges' evaluations of the eccentric comedy performed before them be praise or despair? Get a preview of what's to come with the post-recording comments that have just arrived.
Semifinals [Block A] Judge Post-Recording Comments
Hollywood Zakoshisho
"I saw my younger self. We can't be lenient, really. Because you'll be the one looking foolish. I'll give a shout to anyone messing around. I won't forgive those who are taking this lightly. I won't forgive anyone who performs half-baked material just because it's the MX Grand Prix."
Fujimoto Toshiyuki (FUJIWARA) & Kukkii! (Yasei Bakudan)
Kukkii!: "It was a super heated battle. Various emotions sprouted, like 'this is funny,' 'this is fun,' 'this is cute,' and also 'for this guy's sake.'"
Fujimoto: "'For this guy's sake'?"
Kukkii!: "You haven't had that before, have you? A judge completely driven by personal gain."
Fujimoto: "That's not allowed! Are you looking down on MX? This is a proper award competition!"
Kukkii!: "For first-time viewers, I don't think you should imagine it like other 'XXX-1' competitions. But I think this is the only one where you can laugh heartily with absolutely no 'thought.'"
Fujimoto: "I truly want to see stars born. I'm excited. I feel like a star will emerge from here! (laughs)"
Noda Crystal (Magical Lovely)
"Those who couldn't laugh last year will laugh even less, and those who found it funny last year will find it even funnier, so I want people to come and confirm that. The purity of eccentricity is high. Perhaps it's heading in the right direction as the MX Grand Prix.
When I'm judging like this, I start craving stimulants, and I'm afraid that when I judge other award competitions, I'll think, 'That's totally normal.' I'm scared I might get annoyed by M-1's meticulously crafted material."
Murakami (Magical Lovely)
"Even though it's an award competition, it's a comedy show. I feel this is a wonderful Grand Prix that throws a stone at the recent trend of taking comedy material too seriously. I'm grinning, thinking about how exhilarating it must be for those who watch award competitions seriously with notebooks, only for their notes to remain blank when the winner is decided. But perhaps those people won't watch. I wish they would, though. They really should."
