TERU, the vocalist of the rock band GLAY, has announced that he will hold his fifth art exhibition in August 2026.

The exhibition, titled "HAKODATE ART EXHIBITION 2026 Vol.3 'Old Town'", will be held for 11 days from Saturday, August 1, 2026 to Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the western area of Hakodate known as the "Old Town". This time, the event will be a walking-style event, unfolding art exhibitions with different content across three different venues within the same area.

First, at two locations within the Odajima Suisan Shokuhin building, two installations produced by TERU will be set up. An installation is an expression method that considers the exhibition space itself as part of the artwork. One will be a reconstruction of TERU's character exhibition, which was well-received in Shibuya, rebuilt in Hakodate with renewed content. The other will be an installation themed around "lines", expressing the relationship between society and people.

The second venue is TSU@THE TABLE GALLERY. Here, a photo exhibition themed around Hakodate will be held, featuring five photographers from Hakodate. In addition to photographers closely associated with TERU—Yusuke Oishi, Yusuke Baba, Takayuki Koike, and Kosutarou—GLAY bassist JIRO will also participate. JIRO has long had photography as a hobby, and his sensibility was highly praised by industry professionals at a photo exhibition sponsored by RICOH in 2025. Furthermore, on the second floor of the same venue, a collaborative exhibition will be held with students from the calligraphy class of Hakodate-based calligrapher Akiko Sasaki and children from Iai Kindergarten, themed around "threads".

The third venue is the Tachikawa Family House & Shop. Here, a poem written by GLAY's main composer TAKURO, inspired by Hakodate, will be displayed as a hanging scroll by calligrapher Akiko Sasaki. Additionally, in collaboration with the popular Hakodate sweet shop "HAKODATE MATCHA STAND", matcha will be sold in original cups within the store. Furthermore, a DJ performance by Azumi (wyolica), an artist who is friends with TERU, is also planned.

The western area of Hakodate is a historic old town district spreading around the Hakodate Port in Hokkaido. Since the port opened at the end of the Edo period, foreign culture flowed in, creating a unique townscape where Japanese and Western cultures merged. This exhibition is a walking-style display set against the backdrop of this entire area, allowing visitors to experience not only the art but also the nostalgic streetscape of Hakodate itself.

TERU's participation in the "Hakodate Port Festival", which takes place during the same period, was also announced, and the official website for "Wasshoi Hakodate TEAM Taiyo no Kodomotachi" has been launched. This site will provide information on the participation overview, latest news, and how to join as "TEAM Taiyo no Kodomotachi".

Why not visit Hakodate on the occasion of the "Hakodate Port Festival", a major event representing Hakodate's summer, and TERU's art exhibition?

— Comment from TERU —
I have been holding art exhibitions in Hakodate for the past three years, but this time the stage will be a walking event in the "Old Town", a place with deep history in Hakodate.

I consider traveling by tram, which connects the three venues, to be one of the experiential events that lets you feel Hakodate's history, and I hope people will enjoy the town itself through art.

The Old Town is the "birthplace of modern Japan", which developed as an international trading city after the port opened in 1859.

I hope to create a new culture for the Hakodate Old Town by combining the history of the city with art.
