Announcement of Book Club Event: 'Engraving Trust in Currency: 10 Proposals from a Central Banker'

Minority Stock.com Inc. (Headquarters: Nerima-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and Chairman: Yutaka Yamanaka; hereinafter 'the Company') will co-host a book club event with the Nerima Political Study Group and the Civil Affairs Section 8 Monitoring Committee, centered on the book 'Engraving Trust in Currency: 10 Proposals from a Central Banker' (authored by Masaaki Shirakawa).

This book, written by a former Governor of the Bank of Japan, examines how to maintain trust in currency amidst changing economic and social environments from three perspectives—theory, history, and practice—and presents 10 proposals for improvement. The content introduction states that it broadly covers contemporary financial topics such as target inflation rates, unconventional monetary policies, fiscal sustainability, financial regulation and supervision, central bank independence, accountability, communication, executive appointments, interest on current accounts, international key currencies, and digital currencies.

A major feature of this book is that it goes beyond the technical aspects of central banking, emphasizing the view that trust in currency is ultimately supported by the 'overall strength' of a country and its society. The underlying problem awareness throughout the book is that monetary policy alone cannot solve all economic issues; currency is supported only when fiscal policy, institutions, politics, and social trust are integrated.

This book club will primarily discuss the role of central banks, the merits and demerits of unconventional monetary policies, the relationship between fiscal and monetary policy, trust in currency, and challenges in the era of digital currencies. It aims to be a valuable learning and dialogue platform for those interested in monetary policy, macroeconomics, central banking, fiscal policy, and currency systems.

Masaaki Shirakawa
Former Governor of the Bank of Japan. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1949. After graduating from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Economics, he joined the Bank of Japan and earned a master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago. After serving as a professor at Kyoto University Graduate School and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan, he served as the 30th Governor of the Bank of Japan from 2008 to 2013. He currently teaches at Aoyama Gakuin University and continues to speak on international finance.
