Since the early modern period, the Shikoku Pilgrimage (Henro) of 88 sacred sites was established. However, at that time, not everyone could make the journey due to various reasons. In response, 'local pilgrimages' (Chiho-reijo) were formed throughout Japan, allowing people to experience a similar pilgrimage in their own neighborhoods. Ogori City also preserves such a 'local pilgrimage' path.
