Ogoori City will hold a flood prevention drill on Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Houman Riverbed (downstream of Oitaibashi Bridge on National Route 500). The primary objective is to strengthen the city's flood defense system and enhance the disaster prevention awareness of local residents before the onset of the flood season.

With the participation of fire brigade members and city officials, the drill will focus on practical exercises based on the municipal flood prevention plan. Since early response is critical in minimizing flood damage, the city aims to improve its on-site response capabilities through these realistic simulations.

Key participants include the Mayor of Ogoori, the Director of the Kurume Branch of the Chikugo River Office (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism), the Commander of the 5th Engineer Brigade and Ogoori Camp (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force), and the Chief of the Mitsui Fire Station.

The training will cover various techniques: 1. Sandbag creation 2. Sandbag piling methods 3. Improved sandbag piling methods 4. The Tsukinowa (Moon Ring) method 5. Boat maneuvers

Additionally, the Ogoori City Women's Fire Corps will conduct an emergency catering drill, distributing rice balls and other food to attendees. New city employees will also participate to learn their specific roles during water-related disasters and master essential flood control techniques.
