One of Kyoto University of the Arts' (Kyoto City, Sakyo Ward / President: Taku Sato) social implementation projects is "Hapii+", a hospital art project aimed at improving medical environments.

Since its launch in 2009, "Hapii+" has continued its activities without interruption for 17 years. This year, at the request of Kitano Hospital (Osaka City, Kita Ward / Chairman: Nobuya Inagaki / Hospital Director: Daisuke Hata), hospital art was installed on the walls of the obstetrics ward.

### ■ "Hapii+" 17 Years of Achievements and Background of Activities

Hospital art, an art activity originating in Europe and the US aimed at providing mental care for patients and medical professionals, has gradually spread in Japan since the 2000s and is now adopted by various medical institutions.

"Hapii+", one of our university's social implementation projects, started its activities in 2009. It recruits participants from all departments and has worked on installations at various medical institutions, primarily Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine Hospital in its early stages, and later Kyoto University Hospital.

At Kitano Hospital, the first installation was carried out in 2021, and since then, works have been created in various spaces such as the outpatient area, NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) / GCU (Growing Care Unit), and the chemotherapy center. This fourth time, hospital art was applied within the hospital's obstetrics ward.

### ■ Expressing "Seamless Care" with Connecting Lines, Sympathizing with Each Person's Feelings

The key to the hospital art created this time is the "expression of lines."

Motifs of lines inspired by Kitano Hospital's concept of "seamless care" were applied to the entrance of the obstetrics ward, the wall of the nurse station, the delivery room, and the newborn visiting room.

The spaces that mothers, families, and newborns see during the birthing process are gently connected by soft lines, gently sympathizing with their respective emotions.
