Students of Aso College of Medical Welfare and Childcare Fukuoka's student-led project, the children's cafeteria "Sumire," operated an experiential booth for children at a community marche.

This initiative was realized through the desire of Mr. Yamamoto, the organizer of the community marche and a regular participant in the children's cafeteria activities, to create an event that "families with children can enjoy casually."

In addition to planning and operating workshops, students actively engaged in venue operations and visitor support, deepening their interaction with local residents.

The children's cafeteria "Sumire," born from the students' aspirations

The children's cafeteria "Sumire" is a project launched about 10 years ago by students who thought, "What can we do about child poverty and isolation?"

Since then, the students have continued their activities independently, providing meals and recreation to local children based at the school.

This time, they challenged themselves to exhibit at a community marche to further expand their circle of activities.

Activities on the day

[Participating Students] - 2nd and 3rd year students of the Department of Social Welfare - 1st year students of the Department of Social Welfare Total: 15 students

The students planned and operated workshops such as making amulets and snow globes for the children who visited.

This project was driven by the students' desire not only to entertain the children but also to allow their parents to relax and enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

In addition to operating the children's booth, the students actively engaged in attracting visitors, assisting with venue operations, and interacting with local residents.

On the day, a wide range of generations participated, from children to adults and the elderly, fostering natural intergenerational interaction.

Organizers and exhibitors commented:

"The parents were able to relax because the students looked after the children." "The venue became brighter." "It became a healing space."

Learning about "Creating a Place for Children" through Community Interaction

For the students, working within the local community, which is different from the school environment, provided a practical learning opportunity about the importance of "creating a place for children" and the ways of support through community engagement.

The community marche is scheduled to be held for a second time.

Our school will continue to engage in initiatives that contribute to student growth and community welfare through practical learning, while valuing our connections with the community.
