A Pioneer in University Fashion Education: Bunka Gakuen University Students to Hold Fashion Show at Yoyogi Campus June 12-14

The Fashion Creation Department of the Faculty of Clothing at Bunka Gakuen University (located in Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will hold its 41st fashion show, 'Imeicho', at the university's Endo Memorial Hall from June 12th to 14th. As a pioneer in university fashion education, this is one of the symbolic events of the department, which boasts a 62-year history. Please come and see over 70 outfits and the staging that highlights them.

A Traditional Fashion Show Continuing from the Bunka Women's University Era

The Fashion Creation Department has been holding a fashion show in the fourth year as a culmination of learning since its predecessor, the Faculty of Home Economics at Bunka Women's University.

This show, where students handle everything from planning to design, production, modeling, and staging, receives high praise every year not only from within the university but also from various media and professionals in the apparel industry.

Faculty of Clothing, Fashion Creation Department

Learning creation theory and techniques cross-sectionally from basics to applications to create new fashion.

A feature of this program is that students learn 'clothing creation' from the basics, and from the second year onwards, they can set up their own personalized curriculum according to their interests and career paths from three fields: Design, Technique, and Science. In this institution, well-known as the 'BUNKA of Fashion', the roots of the Fashion Creation Department lie in the clothing and apparel fields of home economics. We provide a broad learning environment that covers not only design, sewing, and apparel production but also textiles, clothing environment, and ergonomics. Graduates are active utilizing their learning not only in the apparel and fashion industries but also in various fields such as entertainment, the textile industry, and education.

In the fourth year, where students elevate their 'comprehensive strength' in fashion by understanding materials in facilities that allow practical learning of apparel production processes, students tackle their graduation research based on their individual themes.

We deploy a curriculum that allows students to establish the 'clothing creation' they aim for while learning, including haute couture, stage costumes, sportswear, brand planning, design expression, and the pursuit of functionality.

Bunka Gakuen University

Opened in 1950 as Bunka Women's Junior College, it has cultivated a unique educational philosophy as a pioneer in clothing and lifestyle design studies based on over 70 years of history and tradition. The name was changed to 'Bunka Gakuen University' in 2011, and co-education started the following year in 2012. The Shinjuku subcenter campus, adjacent to hubs of various culture and information, produces graduates to various fields as an international urban university where approximately 3,300 students study.
