■ Amplifying the experiential value of travel with the excitement of planning and the joy of using and looking back

Osaka Shoseki Printing Co., Ltd. (Location: Nishiyodogawa-ku, Osaka City; Representative Director: Setsuo Narita), which is pioneering new markets for paper and printing, has commercialized "Tabi Colle," a vocabulary notebook-style travel guide, in collaboration with students from Professor Makiko Kawakita's seminar at Nanzan University's Faculty of Business Administration. This product was developed to allow users to enjoy travel more deeply and for a longer period, from the planning stage to during the trip and even after the trip, thereby enhancing the experiential value of travel. As a commemorative event for the pre-sale on "Travel Day" on May 16th, a simulated travel planning workshop using experience samples, a lecture by "Bungu-o" (Stationery King) Masayuki Takahata, and discussions about the students' and the company's passion for the product and behind-the-scenes development stories will be held at Onseven Days Nagakute store (Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture).

【Before the trip】

Write down places you want to visit, food you want to eat, souvenir lists, etc., on various cards. This further increases the excitement during travel planning.

Decorate with handwritten illustrations or your own stamps to create a unique travel guide. If you give it to your travel companions, you can share the fun.

【During the trip】

Attach it to your bag with a wire keychain, allowing you to quickly grab and check the contents. It might even be faster than pulling out your smartphone and scrolling through the screen! It's that convenient. Also, taking photos with scenery in the background creates a special memory. You can use the free-page cards as a base for collecting stamps, among other diverse uses.

【After the trip】

If kept as is, it becomes a treasure that preserves memories and offers the joy of looking back later.

It is also recommended to detach the cards from the wire keychain and collage them into a planner. Collaging them with tickets from visited tourist attractions or museums creates a travel record.

"Travel Day," the day of the event, originates from the day haiku poet Matsuo Basho embarked on his journey for "Oku no Hosomichi." A journey of perhaps 2400 km on foot. He must have written down so many things. Today is a convenient era where generative AI (artificial intelligence) can instantly create efficient itineraries. We hope that people will use the time saved to engage in unique creative activities and enjoy rich travel experiences.

■ About joint development with students

Our company was founded in Meiji 42 (1909) with textbook editing and publishing, and has a 100-year history centered on book printing. However, with the market shrinking due to digitalization, a growth strategy has been a challenge. For this reason, we have planned original brand products that expand the joy of writing and are promoting their deployment through our own e-commerce shop "archshop," bookstores, stationery stores, and general retailers. The source of these plans is our participation in "S-College" (Student Innovation College), an intercollegiate competition where university seminars aim to commercialize products. "Tabi Colle" is one such result. For the theme "Paper stationery that makes someone happy" proposed by our company, Nanzan University students presented a plan that won second prize.

In recent years, the use of paper has decreased due to a decline in reading caused by the spread of smartphones, etc., but there is a strong belief that "paper is better," "there is joy in writing," and "autographs feel more special when looking back."
