Wooden Rental Housing Product "MOKURIE" Starts National Rollout (News Release)

Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka, President: Koji Otomo) will begin the nationwide rollout of its wooden rental housing product "MOKURIE" from May 11, 2026. (*1)

Our group has set forth the long-term environmental vision "Challenge ZERO 2055" and is undertaking initiatives aimed at achieving the Japanese government's "2050 Carbon Neutrality" goal. This includes installing ZEH/ZEB specifications and rooftop solar panels on virtually all new constructions. In April 2024, we established the "Future with Wood Preparation Office" (currently "Future with Wood Promotion Department") to strengthen wooden and timber construction, aiming to achieve both carbon neutrality through construction and business growth.

In this context, we developed the wooden rental housing "MOKURIE." We are now commencing its nationwide rollout from May 11, 2026. "MOKURIE" is a rental housing connecting local mountains and residents, fostering a connection between forests and people and allowing residents to feel coexistence with nature. This is achieved through the use of original louvers (*2) made from local timber for exterior materials and by inviting residents to forest industry site tours. In addition to utilizing local timber, by entrusting construction to local construction companies, we create employment opportunities and economic circulation in regional forestry and wood processing industries.

Moving forward, through "MOKURIE," we aim to create, utilize, and enhance new value with our customers by developing initiatives that connect local mountains and residents, thereby realizing a fulfilling life and society for all.

The wooden rental housing "MOKURIE" connects forest conservation, local economy, and residents' lives through housing construction utilizing local timber. "MOKURIE" uses thinned wood (*3) harvested systematically from local mountains for its exterior original louvers. By replacing the louvers every 10 to 15 years, a wood utilization cycle is achieved.

Furthermore, by utilizing local timber and entrusting the construction of buildings to local construction companies, we create employment opportunities and economic circulation in regional forestry, wood processing, and construction industries, contributing to the establishment of a sustainable local economy.

In addition, to help residents feel closer to local mountains, we plan to invite them to forest industry site tours and tree-planting experiences that deal with the timber used in "MOKURIE."

Moreover, by improving overall building insulation and introducing solar power generation systems, LED lighting, and high-efficiency air conditioning, we have made it compliant with ZEH-M (*4).

"MOKURIE" adopts a balcony-less specification, utilizing the space typically allocated for balconies as a "DOMA" (earthen floor) on the first floor and an "ENGAWA" (veranda) on the second floor.

For the floor finish of the "DOMA" space, a stone-like finishing material suitable for bare feet was adopted, and for the "ENGAWA" space, flooring or tatami-like finishing materials were used.

(2) Spacious LDK with a 3m ceiling height

The first-floor LDK features a sunken floor, lowering the floor level compared to its surroundings. The ceiling height is maximized at 3m (2.4m in general areas), realizing a spacious environment.

(3) 3 types of exterior designs and environmentally friendly planting plans

The exterior designs are offered in three types: "Urban Style" for urban areas, "Standard Style" as a regular option, and "Casual Style" for a simpler look. Additionally, original louvers made from local timber are used for the exterior materials. For landscaping, an environmentally friendly planting plan that harmonizes with the building's exterior was adopted.
