Wooden Rental Housing Product "MOKURIE" to be Rolled Out Nationwide (News Release)

Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka; President: Hirotsugu Otomo) will begin the nationwide rollout of its wooden rental housing product "MOKURIE" from May 11, 2026. (*1)

Our group has set an environmental long-term vision, "Challenge ZERO 2055," and is working towards the Japanese government's "2050 Carbon Neutrality" goal by, in principle, installing ZEH/ZEB specifications and rooftop solar panels in all new buildings. In April 2024, we established the "Future with Wood Preparation Office" (now "Future with Wood Promotion Department") to strengthen wooden and timber construction, aiming to achieve both carbon neutrality through construction and business growth.

Amidst this, we developed the wooden rental housing "MOKURIE." It will be rolled out nationwide starting May 11, 2026. "MOKURIE" is a rental housing that connects local mountains with residents, fostering a connection between forests and people and allowing residents to feel coexistence with nature, by using original louvers (*2) made from locally sourced timber for its exterior materials and inviting residents to forest industry site tours. In addition to utilizing locally sourced timber, by commissioning local construction companies for construction, it creates employment and economic circulation in the local forestry and timber processing industries.

Moving forward, through "MOKURIE," we aim to create, utilize, and enhance new value with our customers by developing initiatives that connect local mountains with residents, striving to realize a society and lifestyle where all people can live enriched lives.

"MOKURIE" connects forest conservation, the local economy, and residents' lives through housing construction that utilizes locally sourced timber. "MOKURIE" uses thinned wood (*3) systematically harvested from local mountains for its original exterior louvers. By replacing the louvers every 10 to 15 years, a wood utilization cycle is achieved.

Furthermore, by utilizing locally sourced timber and commissioning local construction companies for building construction, it creates employment and economic circulation in the local forestry, timber processing, and construction industries, contributing to the establishment of a sustainable local economy.

In addition, to help residents feel closer to local mountains, we plan to invite them to forest industry site tours and tree-planting experiences that handle the timber used in "MOKURIE."

Moreover, by improving the overall insulation of the building and introducing solar power generation systems, LED lighting, and high-efficiency air conditioning, it is compliant with ZEH-M (*4).

*4. Multi-unit housing that aims to achieve zero annual primary energy consumption by improving energy-saving performance through insulation and the introduction of energy-saving equipment, and by creating energy through solar power generation, while realizing a comfortable indoor environment.

"MOKURIE" adopts a balcony-less specification, utilizing the space where a balcony would normally be placed as a "DOMA" (earthen floor) on the first floor and an "ENGAWA" (veranda) on the second floor.

For the floor finish of the "DOMA" space, a stone-like finish suitable for bare feet was adopted, and for the "ENGAWA" space, flooring or tatami-like finishes were used.

(2) Open LDK with a 3m ceiling height

The LDK on the first floor features a down-floor, where the floor level is lowered compared to the surroundings. The ceiling height is maximized to 3m (general areas are 2.4m), creating an open and spacious environment.

(3) 3 types of exterior designs and environmentally friendly planting plans

The exterior designs are available in three types: urban "Urban Style," standard "Standard Style," and simple "Casual Style." Additionally, original louvers made from locally sourced timber are used for the exterior materials. For the exterior landscaping, an environmentally friendly planting plan that harmonizes with the building's exterior was adopted.
