The Sakai Town Council (Chairman: Isao Kuramochi) held a "Special Scam Prevention Seminar" on June 11, 2026 (Thursday), after the final session of the 2nd regular meeting. The seminar aimed to prevent damages from special scams, which have been occurring frequently with increasingly sophisticated methods.
Seminar Overview Date/Time: June 11, 2026 (Thu), 10:30–11:15 Location: Sakai Town Hall, 5th Floor, Assembly Committee Room Lecturer: Deputy Chief Atsushi Osaki, Sakai Police Station, Ibaraki Prefecture Participants: Sakai Town Council members (12 in total)
Content: 1. Explanation of the status of special scams within the prefecture and the latest criminal methods. 2. Key points for effective crime prevention and proactive advice to protect the elderly and local residents.
Background and Purpose In recent years, scam methods—such as refund fraud targeting the elderly and fictitious billing via SNS—have become increasingly sophisticated, leading to frequent damages. The purpose of this seminar is for town council members, who have direct contact with residents, to learn the latest criminal methods and countermeasures directly from the Sakai Police Station, thereby raising community-wide awareness and preventing victimization.
Comment from Chairman Isao Kuramochi "To protect the valuable property and secure lives of our citizens, we in the council must always maintain the latest crisis management awareness. In close cooperation with the Sakai Police Station, council members themselves will act as advocates to promote crime prevention awareness that reaches every individual in our community."
