SHIROYAMA HOTEL kagoshima (Location: Kagoshima City / Representative Director & President: Ryuichi Yano) has launched a special accommodation plan, "Come to Shiroyama! Time Travel to Kagoshima Loved by Saigo-don," starting April 10, 2026 (Friday). This is the first phase of a countdown project leading up to the 200th anniversary of the birth and 150th anniversary of the death of Saigo Takamori, a hero of the Bakumatsu era, which will be celebrated in 2027.

We propose a special trip where you can feel the breath of history with all five senses, unique to our hotel located on "Shiroyama," the site of "Saigo Takamori's Cave" where he spent his last five days, and his "Place of Demise."

■ Project Background: Anticipation for "Saigo Takamori's 200th Birth Anniversary" in 2027

In 2027, Kagoshima will celebrate the historic anniversary year of Saigo Takamori's "200th Birth Anniversary and 150th Death Anniversary." This plan was conceived by our hotel, located in the Shiroyama forest, the stage of the Meiji Restoration, to pass on its historical value to the next generation and to allow guests to experience the condensed food, culture, and spectacular scenery of Kagoshima.

Culinary Delights: "Three Selectable Dinner Courses" to Savor Saigo Takamori's Anecdotes

Chefs from each restaurant have expressed Saigo's favorite foods, anecdotes, and his strong personality with a modern sensibility.

【1】Shiroyama Gardens Suiren ~Saigo-don Kaiseki (9 dishes)~

Kagoshima Kurobuta (black pork), said to be dearly loved by Saigo, is served in two local dishes:

"Tonkotsu-ni" (simmered pork bone) and "Harihari Nabe" (pork and mizuna hot pot).

Also, in an anecdote that he loved eels so much he even shared them with his dog, we have prepared fragrant grilled eel (kabayaki).

【2】French Cuisine Le Ciel ~Saigo-don Dinner (6 dishes)~

Local seafood and Sakurajima chicken, which Saigo, known for his love of fishing, would have enjoyed.

The appetizer plating is inspired by "Sakurajima," which he would have gazed upon, condensing the richness of his hometown into a single dish.

【3】Cantonese Cuisine Hisuitei ~Saigo-don Course (6 dishes)~

Saigo's "strength and kindness" are expressed with chili shrimp and slightly sweet Chinese steamed buns.

The main dish features local Kurobuta pork finished with traditional Chinese Zhenjiang vinegar, offering a deep and rich flavor.
