The Sakado City Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold its first event for the regional brand project "Sakado Ohako Street," which promotes Sakado's little-known specialties and technologies as "Ohako (Sakado's Pride)," on July 24, 2026 (Fri) in the north-south free passage of Sakado Station.

This event aims to unearth the unique strengths (=Ohako) of businesses within the city and deliver them directly to citizens in response to the sentiment, "There's nothing in Sakado..." On the day of the event, the station passage will transform into a lively street filled with Sakado's charm.

▍What is the Origin of the Word "Sakado Ohako"? A Brand Steeped in Edo Period History

Sakado was known in the Edo period as a production area for high-quality rice, and its "mochi rice" was a luxury item so prized it was presented to the Shogun's family.

1 Tribute Rice: Sakado's rice was placed in "black lacquered boxes (Ohako)" to protect it from moisture.

2 Juhachiban Kura (Eighteen Best Warehouses): It is said that this rice was stored in the Shogunate's "Juhachiban Kura."

From this history, we have defined "Ohako (Juhachiban)" in the modern era as "each person's individuality, strengths, and things they are proud of" as Sakado's treasure.
