The Mikuni Festival, an intangible folk cultural property of Fukui Prefecture and one of the three major festivals in the Hokuriku region, will take place over three days starting May 19 in Mikuni Minato, Sakai City. The highlight falls on the 20th, when six massive floats—standing over 6 meters tall and adorned with warrior dolls like Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Maeda Keiji—parade through the historic streets. This year marks the beginning of a four-year comprehensive survey by the Sakai City Board of Education to document the festival's cultural significance. Additionally, a new premium viewing area with 60 seats will be set up in front of Mikuni Station, offering an impressive vantage point for the dynamic float maneuvers.
