Kunitomi Town, Miyazaki Launches Weekly 'White Friday' with 10% Cashback Starting June 26

The Commercial Division of Kunitomi Town Chamber of Commerce (Kunitomi Town, Higashimorokata District, Miyazaki Prefecture) will launch a recurring event called 'White Friday' starting Friday, June 26, 2026, through its digital local currency app 'Shiratama Card.' Every Friday, customers who make electronic payments at participating stores will receive instant point rewards equal to 10% of their purchase amount.

This initiative is open not only to residents of Kunitomi Town but also to those from neighboring areas such as Miyazaki City and Aya Town. Visitors can immediately participate by downloading the app, creating a card, and charging funds on-site. Alongside offering a 'de facto 10% discount every Friday in Kunitomi,' the campaign aims to boost local economic vitality and attract visitors from within and outside the town by enhancing individual store promotion through official social media channels.

Background and Objectives

While the expansion of large retail chains has improved daily shopping convenience, it has also reduced foot traffic to long-established local shops and restaurants. Additionally, many elderly shop owners, despite offering unique products and craftsmanship, face challenges in using smartphones or promoting their businesses on social media.

Under the 'Shiratama Card' project, the team has directly visited local stores to provide hands-on support for smartphone usage and social media promotion. Shop owners have expressed joy, saying, 'It made me truly happy to see my shop’s unique story shared online,' and 'I finally managed to share what I’ve always wanted to but couldn’t before.'

'White Friday' goes beyond a simple discount campaign. It aims to spotlight the hidden 'passion' and 'personal stories' of local shop owners, encouraging residents to rediscover the charm of their hometown. By fostering conversations between shop owners and customers during shopping, the initiative seeks to strengthen community ties through the payment platform.

Too many people pass by 'great local shops' every day without knowing the stories behind them.

'That shop on my usual route actually has such wonderful craftsmanship,' or 'Here, you can feel the warmth of people and the dedication of artisans—something chains can’t offer.' With this campaign, the Kunitomi Town Chamber of Commerce Commercial Division hopes to help people get to know the local shops and people through everyday shopping.

We envision the 'Shiratama Card' not just as a payment tool, but as a bridge connecting local businesses, residents, and visitors from neighboring areas.

Attracting External Support for a Local Economic Revival Loop

This event is open to visitors from neighboring municipalities, including Miyazaki City and Aya Town. By encouraging Friday shopping trips to Kunitomi, the campaign aims to attract external spending and create a 'cycle of support' where nearby communities uplift each other. Beyond price promotions, the campaign will continuously share stories behind the shops via social media to build lasting fan engagement, avoiding a one-off event effect.

Individual Monthly Cap: Maximum 5,000 points per person per month.

Budget Limit: The event operates under a monthly budget cap. Once the limit is reached, point rewards for that month will end without prior notice. However, rewards will resume the following month.

※ If the overall budget limit is reached and the event is terminated, this will be announced in advance via official SNS and the website.

Important Notice on Expiry Dates

Point Expiry: Rewarded points are valid until January 31, 2027 (Reiwa 9)
