Dates Announced for This Year's Kishu Odori "Bundara Bushi" Festival! Pre-Festival Event to be Held Again!

The 58th Kishu Odori "Bundara Bushi," our city's summer tradition, will be held on the following dates. Continuing from last year, a "Pre-Festival" will be held on the eve of the event, featuring dancing around a yagura (scaffold), to build excitement for the festival. 【Pre-Festival】 ■ Date & Time: Friday, July 31, Reiwa 8 (2026), 6:15 PM - 8:30 PM (tentative) ■ Location: Wakayama Castle Nishinomaru Plaza ■ Content: Circle dancing, mochi throwing, candy throwing, festival stalls, etc. 【Kishu Odori "Bundara Bushi" Main Festival】 ■ Date & Time: Saturday, August 1, Reiwa 8 (2026), 5:30 PM - 9:20 PM (tentative) ■ Location: Around Wakayama Castle ■ Content: Street dancing with over 60 participating groups (ren), circle dancing, mochi throwing, candy throwing, festival stalls, etc. Recruiting participating groups (10 or more people) to adorn the street dancing! < Period: May 18 (Mon) - June 19 (Fri) > Similar to last year, the event will start in the early evening as the sun begins to set, allowing dancers to enjoy the dance more comfortably. We are recruiting people to participate in the reenactment, using a daimyo palanquin, costumes, and props recreated based on historical materials related to the Kishu Tokugawa family from the Edo period. 1. Application Categories 【General Participation】 Individuals with a height of approx. 155cm to 185cm who can wear one-size-fits-all costumes. Capacity: 10 people Participation Fee: 2,000 yen per person 【Parent-Child Participation】 Pairs of one elementary school child and one guardian. Guideline for child costume size is a height of approx. 120cm to 150cm. Capacity: 15 pairs (30 people) Participation Fee: 4,000 yen per pair 2.
