DRC Research Institute, LLC (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Member: Masahiro Hotoku) will launch a project in April 2026 to formulate 'Inner Immersion Education Guidelines' that reconstruct contexts often lost in the process of using generative AI, utilizing literature data from the 'Next-Generation Digital Library' open to the public by the National Diet Library (NDL).

Based on the expertise in 'digital archives x generative AI utilization' that DRC Research Institute has cultivated, this project aims to restore the 'historical atmosphere and the author's passion' that are often lost in generative AI processing, and to systematize methods that allow learners to deeply immerse themselves in the worldview of the materials.

Positioned as a non-profit CSR activity until 2028, the project aims to pass on humanities knowledge in a digital society and present an autonomous learning system.

■ Background of Starting This Project

The 'Next-Generation Digital Library' provided by the NDL is a sophisticated digital platform featuring full-text search and image search for historical literature. However, many of the materials included contain terms and writing styles that are unfamiliar today, presenting a high hurdle for general readers without specialized knowledge.

Furthermore, while translation and summarization using generative AI have become widespread, simply converting text into modern language carries the risk that the 'charm unique to difficult books,' such as the social background and specific nuances of the time, will be discarded as noise.

In February 2026, DRC Research Institute conducted a special lecture on 'Digital Archives x Generative AI' at the NDL Kansai-kan, and in March, submitted opinions to the Cabinet Office regarding the promotion of data utilization and AI use in educational institutions.

Through these activities, the institute felt an urgent need for a 'new mechanism to bring out the deep interest of materials and attract readers,' going beyond mere data disclosure or mechanical modern translation, and thus embarked on this project.

■ Overview of This Project

This project will promote research and investigation, and the formulation of guidelines based on the following three axes:

(1) Investigation of experience design that enables 'narrative dialogue' across time
First, through generative AI, we will investigate experiences that allow direct contact with the thoughts of authors and characters from decades or centuries ago, based on information obtained from the 'Next-Generation Digital Library.'

(2) Investigation of 'narratives' that reproduce the entire 'historical atmosphere' discarded by generative AI
Next, we will investigate methods to deliberately complement the context that generative AI tends to strip away from the information obtained from the 'Next-Generation Digital Library' and reconstruct it as a 'story.'

(3) Formulation of 'Inner Immersion Education Guidelines' returning from digital to analog
Finally, we will formulate 'Inner Immersion Guidelines' that go beyond simulated experiences through devices and reconstruct history within the learner's own thoughts through language and questioning.
By implementing direction that re-captures materials as 'one's own business,' we will formulate highly effective operational guidelines for educators to invite learners into a world of deep contemplation beyond data.

■ Free Quiz Series Currently Running on Official Note

As a CSR activity coinciding with the start of this project, a free series of quizzes to unravel the world of 'difficult books' is being conducted on the DRC Research Institute official note.

【Ongoing Free Series (Updated Every Sunday)】
- 1st Book: 'Telling the Experience' (50 episodes total)
- 2nd Book: 'Autobiography of Toshiyuki Okamoto' (50 episodes total)
- 3rd Book: 'Forty-Year History of Nippon Paint Co., Ltd.' (50 episodes total)
- 4th Book: 'Twenty-Five Year History of Saiseikai Imperial Gift Foundation Osaka Prefecture Nakatsu Hospital' (50 episodes total)

This series introduces valuable digital literature published by the NDL upon expiration of copyright protection in a quiz format every Sunday. By interestingly unraveling the world of seemingly difficult books, it provides a form of autonomous learning where anyone can become a 'successor of culture.'

The free series will continue to be added sequentially starting from the 5th book.

■ Future Outlook

This project will conduct verification experiments and research over the next two years, with research results scheduled for public release in early 2028. DRC Research Institute will evolve digital archives from 'preserved records' into 'living knowledge that moves readers' hearts' through the power of AI and education, contributing to the development of education and culture for the next generation.
