Symposium on "Legal Education x Media Literacy" to Protect Children in the AI Era to be Held on May 2nd (Sat) in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo

The "Kodomo Roppo School" (operated by Art&Arts Co., Ltd.), presided over by Satoshiichiro Yamazaki, who has led children's legal education with over 12 practical books for children including the bestseller "Kodomo Roppo" (Kobundo), will hold a symposium on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, to commemorate its 5th anniversary.

Through a keynote report, lectures, and a panel discussion by Mr. Tsuyoshi Fujii (former specially appointed professor at Meiji University, voter education advisor) and Mr. Daisuke Fujikawa (professor at Chiba University, leading expert in media literacy education), the symposium will discuss the intersection of legal education and media literacy education in the AI era.

■ Background of the Symposium

Kodomo Roppo School opened in May 2021 as the only legal education cram school directly managed by Satoshiichiro Yamazaki. Since then, it has welcomed students from all over Japan and even overseas through online classes, developing legal education, media literacy education, and drama education that cultivate the "power to choose one's life."

In the five years since its establishment, SNS and generative AI have developed significantly, exposing children daily to risks of judging the veracity of information and unintended rights infringements. A 2024 survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications found that 46.0% of young people experienced some form of trouble when using the internet [1]. Students of Kodomo Roppo School have also reported troubles in interactions with friends on games, making it a familiar problem. Legal education to know "what the problem is and how to deal with it" is no longer limited to acquiring knowledge but has become inseparable from "media literacy" to survive in the information society.

Kodomo Roppo School will disclose the knowledge accumulated through five years of practical experience, presenting social issues for schools, families, and communities to collaborate in protecting and nurturing children.

Tsuyoshi Fujii (Fujii Tsuyoshi)

Former Specially Appointed Professor, Faculty of Letters, Meiji University / Voter Education Advisor, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Has led political/economic education and voter education for over 40 years.

【Biography】

From 1983, worked as a public high school teacher in Chiba Prefecture at Ichikawa Higashi High School, Inage High School, Chiba High School, and Chiba Technical High School (part-time), mainly teaching politics and economics. In classes, he conducted various pioneering teaching practices such as legal education, voter education, NIE, and active learning. From April 2015 to March 2025, he served as a specially appointed professor at the Faculty of Letters, Meiji University, teaching social studies and civics education methods, focusing on teacher training. His specialty is subject education methods. Currently, while teaching at several universities including Meiji University, he also gives lectures nationwide as a voter education advisor (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) and conducts classes in high schools. His major works include "Recommendation for Voter Education" (Shimizu Shoin), "Design of Public Class and Assessment" (Shimizu Shoin), "Live! From Voter Education to Public" (Yamakawa Shuppansha), "Politics and Economy Starting with 'Why!?'" (Yamakawa Shuppansha).

Daisuke Fujikawa (Fujikawa Daisuke)

Dean and Professor, Graduate School of Education, Chiba University. A leading expert in media literacy education and bullying response research. Served as a member of the MEXT Bullying Prevention Basic Policy Formulation Council.

【Biography】

Dean and Professor, Graduate School of Education, Chiba University (Educational Methodology, Teaching Practice Development). Born in Tokyo in 1965. Served as Assistant Professor at Kinjo Gakuin University, Chiba.
