What is an 'experiential exhibition'?
The golden mask and golden coffin discovered from Tutankhamun's tomb over 100 years ago are now treasures that cannot be taken out of Egypt. To see the real ones, you have to fly to Egypt. So this exhibition has prepared many mechanisms to allow you to warp to Egypt, Luxor, ancient times, and before the golden artifacts while staying in Japan.
1. Capturing data from real Tutankhamun artifacts
WORLD SCAN PROJECT actually visited the Cairo Egyptian Museum, photographed many of Tutankhamun's artifacts for photogrammetry, and created 3D models. At the entrance, a hologram is installed where you can enjoy the golden mask like an explorer. Take note of the detailed texture of this '3D digital clone' scanned from the real thing.
2. Fully reconstructed burial chamber
KV62 (meaning 'Tomb 62 in the Valley of the Kings') discovered in Luxor. The burial chamber of Tutankhamun's tomb has been realistically recreated using the craftsmanship of Japanese film art. The supervising professor Kawae said, 'Oh, this looks just like the real thing!' It was relocated from Kadokawa Musashino Museum to Yokohama as is. The appearance, size, murals, burial goods, and even the mold growth are realistically reproduced, giving you a feeling that you can only get by going to Luxor.
3. 'Super replicas' made as close to the real thing as possible
Over 130 life-sized replicas are displayed at the venue. Moreover, instead of viewing them behind glass like in a museum, you can bring your face close and see every detail. Made by professional metal engravers and sculptors led by Professor Mustafa Mahmoud El-Ezabi of the Sculpture Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University, Egypt, 3,300 years ago
