(Headquarters: Palo Alto, USA; CEO: David Gascoigne; hereinafter "Segmed"), a provider of medical data for medical research and AI development, are pleased to announce a strategic partnership aimed at expanding access to global medical data. Through this partnership, access to overseas medical data from within Japan will become possible, and support for its utilization will be provided. This aims to accelerate the development of medical AI in Japan and support the overseas expansion of medical AI companies.

MAPI has strengths in the anonymous processing and management of medical data, supporting both medical institutions that provide data and companies/researchers that utilize it. In particular, for data users such as medical AI companies, they provide comprehensive support including not just data provision but also regulatory compliance and sales channel expansion support. In addition, they are working on developing a governance structure for medical data utilization, such as establishing an ethics review committee (*).

Segmed, as a leading company in the US real-world image data sector, provides data of a quality compliant with regulatory requirements, with personally identifiable information removed, obtained from over 2,800 medical institutions to researchers and AI developers through its platform "Openda", which collects, organizes, and provides medical data in a usable format.

Through this partnership, MAPI will support regulatory compliance, data licensing, and data processing operations related to data provision. This is expected to accelerate R&D timelines and improve the quality of outcomes.

Furthermore, MAPI aims to create a new ecosystem centered on medical data and support the overseas expansion of Japanese medical AI companies. When expanding overseas, it is essential to acquire local data and verify/optimize algorithms using it. It is also necessary to select data taking into account various factors, such as regulations related to pharmaceutical laws in each country. MAPI advises on these processes and supports the provision of appropriate data. Moving forward, they plan to provide multifaceted support for overseas expansion, including R&D and regulatory compliance in each country.

As the first step of this initiative, MAPI acquired overseas medical image data through Segmed for the purpose of developing and verifying its own anonymization processing technology. They have smoothly completed the entire process from quality control to delivery of the acquired data, establishing their own foundation for full-scale data provision in the future.

In addition, medical AI experts at MAPI will support the selection and organization of medical datasets necessary for customers' product development.
