Mizoguchi Clinic (Location: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Director: Toru Mizoguchi), which practices nutritional medicine based on orthomolecular nutrition therapy in Yaesu Nihonbashi, Tokyo, was invited to and spoke at "The 12th Science Forum" and "The 4th Mekong Dermatology Publication" held in Can Tho City, Vietnam, on March 20, 2026.

At this forum, Director Mizoguchi gave a lecture on 'The Relationship between Iron Metabolism and Skin,' and his academic contribution was recognized, leading to him receiving a lecture certification and an academic contribution award from Cuu Long University and FOB International Cosmetic Dermatology (FICI).

This presentation provided an opportunity for Japan-originated knowledge in the field of nutritional medicine to be internationally shared and evaluated, as well as demonstrating the potential for Japan-Vietnam collaboration. As a clinician who has led orthomolecular nutrition therapy in Japan, Director Mizoguchi has accumulated many years of extensive clinical experience. At this forum, he lectured on 'Advances in Body Care - Health - Beauty - 2026 (An Approach to Creating Beauty from Within),' emphasizing the importance of 'internal health management' based on the latest academic insights.

This lecture introduced Japan's nutritional medicine approach from an integrated perspective that spans prevention, beauty, and chronic symptom improvement.

Warning about 'tissue iron deficiency' before anemia:
He pointed out the fact that even when hemoglobin levels are within the normal range, a decrease in stored iron (low ferritin) can lead to collagen synthesis disorders and reduced energy production, initiating skin problems.

Importance of iron-containing enzymes:
He explained the mechanism by which iron is essential for the function of catalase, which processes reactive oxygen species, and enzymes that form collagen (e.g., prolyl hydroxylase), and how iron deficiency accelerates photoaging and skin damage.

Approach to infant atopy:
He presented a case where nutritional intervention for mothers of breastfed infants dramatically improved the infants' skin symptoms via breastfeeding. The method of reinterpreting blood tests from a nutritional perspective attracted great interest from specialists in various countries.

Skin inflammation, decreased protein metabolism, and vitamin B group/zinc deficiency observed at the initial visit showed overall improvement after 18 months.

■ Development as a Japan-Vietnam International Exchange Project Connecting Medicine and Culture

This initiative was carried out as part of an international exchange project that integrates medicine and culture, realized through collaboration with Koto player Shuji Takaya, who promotes Japan-Vietnam cultural exchange. Mr. Takaya's philosophy of 'delivering authentic Japanese value to the world' and Director Mizoguchi's 'advanced nutritional therapy originating from Japan' resonated, leading to international contributions beyond the boundaries of medicine and art.

Mr. Takaya's activities, which also align with 'delivering authentic Japanese value to the world,' led to official recognition and academic evaluation at Cuu Long University.

As an advisor to Mizoguchi Clinic, Mr. Takaya engages in activities that span medicine and art, providing music to approximately 7,000 medical institutions nationwide, based on the principles of orthomolecular nutrition medicine.

This initiative also demonstrates the potential as a new international collaboration model spanning medicine, education, and culture.
