■Background

CIESF provides educational support in Cambodia, but its current situation and aspirations have not yet reached many people sufficiently. Therefore, to make more people aware and create an opportunity to think together, we planned to disseminate information at the Cambodia Festival.

Furthermore, to create an opportunity for active participation in planning and operation, not just simple information dissemination, we recruited project members with the aim of fostering deeper engagement. In addition, to encourage more people to participate, we also recruited on-the-day volunteers.

■About Public Interest Incorporated Foundation CIESF

This project was launched by Public Interest Incorporated Foundation CIESF, which provides educational support in Cambodia, to give Japanese high school students experience on the 'front lines of international cooperation.' CIESF is a Japanese public interest incorporated foundation that supports the self-reliance of developing countries, including Cambodia, under the motto 'Education as the Starting Point for Everything.'

The biggest feature is that it does not stop at temporary material aid but focuses on 'human development through education' as the pillar of its activities. It engages in diverse activities such as training local teachers through the dispatch of 'Teachers Without Borders,' operating integrated schools to nurture future leaders, and supporting entrepreneurs to revitalize industries.

Therefore, by teaming up with CIESF, a professional in educational support, and active high school students with flexible ideas, we aim for a new form of international understanding.

【Introduction to Booth Planning Content】

1. Original Accessory Making Experience with Krama, Cambodia's Traditional Versatile Cloth

We will hold a workshop using 'Krama,' a traditional hand-woven cloth indispensable to Cambodian life. You can experience making accessories that blend into modern daily life using this cloth, characterized by its cotton and silk check patterns.

2. Let's Write Your Name in Khmer!

Sticker where you can write your name in Khmer in the central white part.

Khmer is the official language of Cambodia, spoken by approximately 15 million people. Unlike Japanese, its grammar word order is the same as English, and it is characterized by having no verb conjugations and possessing 33 consonant letters and 21 vowel symbols. You can learn the profound depth of the Khmer language by seeing how your name is actually written and read.

3. Visitors can contribute to support by purchasing products.

This year, in addition to drinks where the entire purchase amount is allocated to educational support in Cambodia, we offer a lineup of several products, including dried fruits and pouches. All of these are products manufactured in Cambodia. Furthermore, these products incorporate sentiments for Cambodia, such as human resource development, job creation, and support for people with disabilities, during their manufacturing process.

Products that are usually only available locally or online can be touched and purchased at the CIESF booth at this festival.

We provide an opportunity for anyone to easily participate in international support, starting with 'buying' as a trigger.

■Project Members' Enthusiasm

The project members have focused on planning sales and workshops that allow visitors to experience Cambodian traditions and culture firsthand, as well as publicity activities using social media, engaging in daily online and offline discussions. Thanks to the members' call, 28 on-the-day volunteer staff will support the booth operation, generating great enthusiasm for the event. Please pay attention and visit the CIESF booth at Cambodia Festival 2026, created by these young leaders.

■Future Developments

This project plans to have 16 project members and 28 on-the-day volunteers, many of whom are high school students. Many of these participants include students from schools that have introduced CIESF's vending machines with donation functions or from schools where outreach classes have been conducted.

In recent years, there has been growing interest in real-world experience and volunteer activities in schools. CIESF aims to use such interest as a trigger to learn about the realities of international support and to actively think about international cooperation.
