About Yokohama Hasseiden Local History Museum
The Hasseiden is a three-storied, octagonal building modeled after the Yumedono of Horyuji Temple, built by Kenzo Adachi (1864-1948), a politician from Kumamoto Prefecture who served as Minister of Communications and Home Affairs, and completed in Showa 8 (1933). It opened as the "Yokohama Hasseiden Local History Museum" in Showa 48 (1973) to convey local history to citizens. It primarily exhibits photographs of Honmoku and Negishi from the Bakumatsu to Meiji periods, as well as agricultural and fishing tools used in the city, introducing the lives of our predecessors who lived with the bounty of nature.
