■ Japanese Painting Workshop 'Let's Try Japanese Painting'
The Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum will host a Japanese painting workshop with Ms. Hitoka Kaneko, a Japanese painter active in Yatsugatake, as the instructor. The history of painting called 'Japanese painting' is ancient, brought to Japan thousands of years ago via the Silk Road, China, and the Korean Peninsula. Why not experience Japanese painting, which you don't often have the opportunity to touch? We look forward to your participation.

■Fossil Digging Experience 2026
Every summer, we hold our annual 'Fossil Digging Experience'. Specially transported strata from Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, approximately 90 million years old (Cretaceous period), where Waseda University conducts excavations, will be used. Fossils of dinosaurs, crocodiles, and shark teeth have been discovered there so far. What discoveries will there be this year?
*Valuable fossils will be donated to Kuji City (discoverer's name recorded, commemorative gift available).

Special Exhibition 'Ikuo Hirayama Depicts Japan - Ancient Capitals, Four Seasons, and Sacred Rivers of Prayer' Part 1: The Road to Oirase
Period: June 19 (Friday) - September 28 (Monday)
Ikuo Hirayama visited Tohoku in 1959, during his time as an assistant at Tokyo University of the Arts. Regarding the Oirase Stream, which he encountered while suffering from ill health after the atomic bombing, he said, "It truly taught me the joy of living."
This exhibition will introduce works depicting the Japanese landscape, focusing on his major work "Flowing Water Without Interruption (Oirase Stream)" from the museum's collection.
