Aiming for "Usable" Visual Inspection AI in Manufacturing – From Domain Understanding to Implementation and Operation Points –

Mr. Akimasa Tokunaga

Visual inspection in manufacturing is a domain-specific task involving unique imaging conditions, product characteristics, and defect types specific to each site, and applying general AI models directly often fails to meet practical requirements. Furthermore, the demand to "never miss a rare defect" presents a fundamentally different problem structure from standard machine learning. This lecture will introduce how to address and overcome these challenges, drawing on knowledge gained from joint initiatives with companies.

Mr. Akimasa Tokunaga, Professor, Graduate School of Information Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology
