The Japan Marketing Association (JMA), headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has designated 2026 as its organizational transformation year—'JMA Metamorphose 2026'—and will fully revamp its official magazine, 'MARKETING HORIZON (Marketing Horizon),' starting July 2026.

The new media platform will feature Daigo Teshio, former world athletics medalist and current professor at the University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, as its navigator. Centered on the theme of 'value creation' as defined in the 2024 'New Definition of Marketing,' the publication will transform into a digital-first media platform, primarily distributed via podcast and YouTube.

The first episode, 'Episode 0,' will be released on Wednesday, July 1, followed by the official launch of the main series on Wednesday, July 8.

Background of the Revamp: A Platform to Explore the Essence of Value Creation in Marketing

Since its founding in 1958, the magazine has documented the evolution of marketing in Japan. However, in today’s complex market environment where there is no single 'correct answer,' we believe what is truly needed is not just showcasing success stories (WHAT), but uncovering the human motivations and challenges overcome (HOW) behind them.

The new 'MARKETING HORIZON' aims to illuminate the real struggles of marketers with the warmth of everyday life. It aspires to become a 'pause' or 'point of reflection'—a moment for marketers and business professionals to stop and engage in deep contemplation amid their daily routines.

Two Key Features of the New Media Platform

Authentic Stories Driven by Daigo Teshio (Navigator) and Tomoko Suzuki (Theoretical Support):

Professor Daigo Teshio brings his sharp, essential questioning, while Professor Tomoko Suzuki of Hitotsubashi Business School provides theoretical framing. Together, they will host guests and delve into the truths behind value creation from dual perspectives.

Audio-First Design for Seamless Integration into Daily Life:

To ensure accessibility during commutes or work breaks, the platform will primarily distribute content via Spotify, Podcast (Apple Podcasts/Amazon Music), and YouTube. Additionally, member companies will receive a printed compilation of the digital content.

Editorial Board

Six leading Japanese marketing specialists, each with unique perspectives, will serve as editorial board members, contributing their collective wisdom alongside JMA to shape the future of marketing media.

Editorial Board Members:

Goji Horiya (Chairperson, President of Hakuhodo Life Research Institute) Tomoko Suzuki (Professor, Hitotsubashi Business School) Keiichi Higuchi (Representative Director, Keiichi Higuchi Office) Tomoko Tagami (Representative Director and CEO, Synergee Inc.)
