❖Featured Athletes

The main competitions will primarily consist of the following three divisions:

【1】WDSF World Championship PD Super Grand Prix Standard Division

● This will be an incredibly high-level competition featuring world-class athletes such as Vadim Shurin – Anastasia Meshkova (Latvia), who placed 2nd at last year's Tokyo Open and are currently ranked 2nd in the world, Edgaras Baltaragis – Indre Baltarage (Lithuania), ranked 3rd in the world and showing remarkable growth, and Nikita Anikeev – Elina Kokotoba (AIN), among others. It promises to be full of highlights.

● From Japan, the pair Yujin Hiroshima – Sakina Onishi, who formed last year, will aim for the finals.

【2】WDSF Open Latin (Adult) Division

● Jakub Lipowski – Tereza Kucerova (Czech Republic), winners of last year's Tokyo Open, will compete to defend their title.

This time, Konstantin Gorodilov – Polina Figurenko (Estonia) will make their first visit to Japan as strong contenders. They are young, rapidly growing athletes who have quickly climbed to 2nd in the world rankings, making their matchup a major highlight.

● From Japan, attention will be on the performances of young athletes such as Tatsuya Imanishi – Hikari Onishi and Kenshin Whiton – Kanami Whiton.

【3】WDSF International Open Standard Division

● World champions Cojoc Rares – Matei Andrees (Romania) are scheduled to visit Japan, and with the addition of Dariusz Mycka – Madara Freiberga (Poland) and Dmitri Kolobov – Signe Busk (Denmark), a spectacular battle among the world's top three is likely to unfold here at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

❖What is the Tokyo Open DanceSport Championship?

The Tokyo Open was first held on March 21, 1999, at Komazawa Olympic Park Indoor Ball Game Field, following the IDSFO (now WDSF) World Championship, which was first held in Japan in 1998. It was established with the desire to raise the level of Japanese dance sports and to allow many people to witness the charm of world-class dance sports. Since then, it has become the pinnacle of dance sports competitions held in Japan, attracting athletes from various countries worldwide to compete with top Japanese athletes in brilliant techniques and performances. Although some competitions were canceled due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to the long-standing support of dance sports fans, this year marks its 25th anniversary.

❖What is DanceSport?

"DanceSport" is a competitive sport that has uniquely evolved by pursuing athleticism based on "Ballroom Dance," also known as "Social Dance." Broadly categorized by music genre, it includes Standard dances (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep) and Latin dances (Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble).
