Igarashi Reizou Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Takaharu Igarashi; hereinafter "the Company") is pleased to announce that its "Vietnam/DR Technology Operation Demonstration Project in Refrigerated Warehouses" has been adopted under the "Global South Future-Oriented Co-creation, etc. Project," which is implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) through AMEICC.

【Background and Objectives of the Project】

In Vietnam, electricity demand is expanding rapidly due to strong economic growth, making the promotion of renewable energy introduction and the stabilization of power supply crucial issues. This project aims to demonstrate the utilization of demand response (hereinafter "DR"*) technology in refrigerated warehouses to improve the power supply-demand balance in Vietnam and build towards future DR schemes.

Specifically, by introducing highly efficient natural refrigerant freezers equipped with an energy management system (EMS) to utilize refrigerated warehouses operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as a power supply-demand adjustment resource, we aim to establish a new operational model that autonomously optimizes power consumption in response to DR commands, thereby maximizing the use of renewable energy such as solar power generation.

This project also marks the Company's first overseas demonstration of this technology.

* Demand Response (DR): An initiative where electricity users (demand side) adjust their electricity usage in response to power supply-demand conditions or renewable energy generation, thereby curbing electricity consumption.

【Necessity of Government Support and Significance of the Project】

This project is a demonstration initiative aimed at presenting concrete solutions that contribute to stabilizing Vietnam's power supply, utilizing advanced energy-saving refrigeration equipment and digital technologies with a proven track record in Japan. For its implementation, an initial investment of 1.32 billion JPY is planned for the introduction of refrigeration equipment, etc.

However, there is no precedent for demonstrating DR technology utilizing refrigerated warehouses in Vietnam, which entails uncertainties in both technical and institutional aspects. Therefore, financial support through this subsidy became indispensable for promoting the project. Of the initial investment, eligible subsidized expenses amount to 790 million JPY, and the adopted subsidy amount is 530 million JPY.

Through this project, the Company will promote the creation of a DR market in Vietnam and the decarbonization of its energy system, thereby contributing to the stabilization of the country's overall power supply. Furthermore, we believe that establishing a robust power infrastructure environment will also lead to an improved investment climate in Vietnam and support the overseas expansion of Japanese companies.
