The Presidential Office issued a press release in the evening stating that the Vice President, in his address upon receiving the 'Latvian Parliament's Friendship with Taiwan Group Visit' this morning, said that although Taiwan and Latvia are geographically distant and located in different regions of the world, both sides share common interests in many areas, especially in strengthening democratic systems which is more evident when facing numerous geopolitical challenges.
The Vice President also pointed out that Taiwan never takes freedom for granted, deeply understands the necessity of safeguarding freedom and democracy, and continuously strengthens its self-defense capabilities and national security.
The Vice President believes that Taiwan and Latvia have potential for further cooperation in industries such as autonomous technology, unmanned systems, and artificial intelligence. Especially since Taiwan holds a key position in the global semiconductor chip industry and plays an equally important role in the field of AI hardware manufacturing. Taiwan looks forward to leveraging these advantages to further enhance its national security and defense capabilities, to safeguard its cherished values, and to further deepen cooperation with Latvia.
