Vandalized Election Billboard in Kaohsiung; Man Claims Impulsive Act While Waiting for Bus

Police in Kaohsiung's Cianjhen Precinct discovered that the election signboard of candidate Deng Qiaopei had been vandalized while officers were near a bus stop on Baotai Road. Deng Qiaopei officially reported the incident at Ruilong Police Station that afternoon. The Cianjhen Precinct established a task force, utilizing technological investigation methods, reviewing surveillance footage, and performing image and time-sequence analysis to quickly identify and apprehend a 49-year-old suspect named Yan that evening. Yan confessed that he acted on impulse with his personal keys while waiting for a bus. The case has been transferred to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor's Office for investigation on charges of property damage under Article 354 of the Criminal Code and obstruction of elections under Article 98 of the Public Officials Election and Recall Act.
