US Democrats' Attempt to Limit Trump's War Powers Against Iran Blocked by Republicans

According to AFP, Hakeem Jeffries, the minority leader of the Democrats in the US House of Representatives, sought to pass a resolution related to the President's war powers by "unanimous consent," which would bypass a roll-call vote if no one objected. However, as expected, this proposal was rejected by the Republican conference chair, representing the House majority.

As the US Congress is currently in a two-week recess and most lawmakers are not in Washington, Jeffries's maneuver today was largely symbolic, highlighting Democrats' dissatisfaction with Trump launching a war against Iran without formal congressional authorization. Jeffries had previously called on lawmakers to attend the session.

However, Republican lawmakers apparently have little interest in challenging Donald Trump's authority. Some of them support the Trump administration's handling of the conflict, while others, though uneasy about the lack of congressional oversight regarding Trump's actions, are not willing to support measures that would restrict his military operations.
