Taipei City Department of Health announced today that this imported measles case is a Taiwanese male in his 30s. The patient developed symptoms of fatigue and conjunctivitis on April 1st, followed by fever and cough starting on the 3rd, and developed a rash from his hands and face to his body. After seeking medical attention and undergoing testing, he was confirmed positive on the 8th.
The Department of Health stated that it has identified a total of 383 contacts, including cohabitants, colleagues, and those encountered during medical visits, and will continue health monitoring until the 21st.
The Department of Health also announced the patient's public place activity history, including traveling on the MRT from Wanfang Hospital Station to Taipei City Hall Station and from Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station to Wanfang Hospital Station on March 30th, and taking the Brown 6 bus and traveling on the MRT from Taipei City Hall Station to Wanfang Hospital Station on April 1st. Related venues have undergone enhanced disinfection, and people who visited the same places are urged to conduct self-health monitoring for 18 days.
The Department of Health reminds the public that measles is highly contagious through air, droplets, and contact with a confirmed case's secretions. Infected individuals are contagious from 4 days before rash onset to 4 days after. During the health monitoring period, individuals without symptoms can live normally but are advised to wear masks and avoid crowded public places. The Department of Health stated that individuals whose travel history overlaps and who develop symptoms such as rash, fever, cough, runny nose, photophobia, tearing, or red eyes should contact their local health service center or the 1922 epidemic prevention hotline as soon as possible for medical arrangement by health authorities to reduce the risk of virus transmission.
