Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz, Announces Alternative Route; White House: Unacceptable

According to AFP, Iran had previously agreed to temporarily reopen the Strait of Hormuz during a two-week ceasefire. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for approximately one-fifth of global oil transport. In a statement quoted by Iranian media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced: "All vessels intending to pass through the Strait of Hormuz are hereby notified that to comply with maritime safety principles and avoid potential collisions with mines, they should use the alternative route of the Strait of Hormuz." According to Euronews, Iranian state media reported yesterday that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that any closure would be "completely unacceptable," adding, "I will reiterate the President's expectations and demands for the immediate, rapid, and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz."
