Miaoli County experienced heavy rains from the 3rd to the 4th, with cumulative rainfall reaching 300 millimeters, and hourly rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters in some areas, leading to flooding due to insufficient drainage. In Touwu Township, the Shahe River overflowed its banks, directly flooding homes. In Houlong Township, crops such as watermelons, cantaloupes, and blueberries suffered severe damage. The County Government convened a county affairs meeting today, where the Department of Information and Research presented preliminary disaster damage statistics. As of the 6th, the estimated funding required for post-disaster rehabilitation, including county-managed rivers, drainage systems, fishing harbors, soil and water conservation facilities (Type G1) and rural road facilities (Type H3) reported by township and city offices, crops, agricultural facilities, and livestock, is approximately 380.87 million NTD. Additionally, 69 schools reported damage requiring repairs, with an estimated cost of over 43.35 million NTD. The combined funding requirement exceeds 420 million NTD. County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin stated that the county government's disaster preparedness fund is only 300 million NTD. The shortfall will be reported to the central government to apply for subsidies. Chung Tung-chin specifically thanked the Ministry of the Interior and many county magistrates for their immediate concern and assistance. He emphasized that facing this disaster, "we are now racing against time," and urged all relevant units to act quickly and address issues based on priority to help residents return to normal life as soon as possible.
