Clarifying Controversy Over Inspecting Track Crossing Without Reflective Vest; TRA Says It Was a Temporary Path

The Baishatun Gongtian Temple Mazu pilgrimage on foot to Beigang Chaotian Temple in Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County, will start its journey late at night on April 12, with the number of registered participants reaching 450,000. Yesterday, Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Yen-po went to the THSR Chiayi Station, Beigang transfer point, TRA Chiayi Station, THSR Miaoli Station, Baishatun transfer point, and TRA Baishatun Station for on-site inspections.

However, some netizens posted on social media pointing out that during the inspection led by Chen Yen-po, neither he nor TRA Chairman Tu Wei wore reflective vests when crossing the railway tracks, questioning whether it involved a violation of the Railway Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

The TRA explained through a written statement that the route taken by Deputy Minister of Transportation Chen Yen-po and his team to inspect and simulate passengers getting off and leaving the station utilized a temporary path and temporary entrances and exits. This evacuation practice has been in place for years and is a temporary measure for evacuation cooperation known to all relevant business personnel. Some people in society who are not company employees do not understand the actual preparation situation, so they should verify more and not cause false concerns.

The TRA pointed out that it has completed preparations for this year's Baishatun evacuation, including platform awnings, additional train planning, and station route arrangements, all of which are ready.
