Chiayi County Black Market Dog Breeding Farm: 10 Dogs Suspected of Having Vocal Cords Removed, Owner Fined and Referred for Prosecution

The Chiayi County Animal Disease Control Institute announced today that in March, it investigated a black market dog breeding farm in Shuishang Township and found 63 dogs, including Shiba Inus, French Bulldogs, and rare breeds like Casanova and Giant Poodles. All dogs have been confiscated and moved to an animal protection park. The Animal Disease Control Institute stated that among the confiscated dogs, 10 could only emit sounds, and examinations at the Veterinary College of Chiayi University revealed missing vocal cord tissue, suggesting they had undergone vocal cord removal surgery. The owner, surnamed Guan, claimed ignorance but could not account for the dogs' origin and movement. The Chiayi County Animal Disease Control Institute Director, Lin Peiru, told CNA that the owner, Guan, violated the Animal Protection Act and has been referred to the Chiayi District Prosecutor's Office for investigation through the anti-corruption unit.
