Typhoon Sinlaku to Form Far from Taiwan; Taitung to Brace for Foehn Winds on the 10th Amidst Hot Weather

Central Weather Administration forecaster Lin Ting-yi told CNA that a tropical depression currently located in the waters southeast of Guam has the chance to strengthen into this year's fourth typhoon, Sinlaku, as early as tonight or tomorrow. It is expected to continue moving northward after formation. Due to suitable sea temperature and atmospheric conditions for its development, it has the potential to continue strengthening, but it is far from Taiwan and will have no impact on the island.

Lin Ting-yi pointed out that the weather will be stable until the 13th, with most areas experiencing sunny to cloudy skies, and afternoon thundershowers likely in mountainous areas. Specifically, there will be scattered brief showers in northern Taoyuan and northeastern regions during the early mornings of the 11th and 12th.

Lin Ting-yi stated that a frontal system will approach on the 14th, and pass on the 15th, along with the influence of a weak northeast monsoon, bringing localized brief showers to northern and eastern Taiwan. Other areas will be cloudy, with localized brief showers in mountainous areas in the afternoon. On the 16th, the northeast monsoon will weaken, and another frontal system will follow on the 17th, primarily bringing brief rain to northern and northeastern regions.

Regarding temperatures, Lin Ting-yi said that tomorrow, high temperatures across Taiwan will be around 30 degrees Celsius. The Taipei basin has a chance to reach 33 degrees Celsius, and plains near mountainous areas in the south around 34 degrees. He specifically reminded that Taitung might experience Foehn winds tomorrow, urging caution for localized high temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius. Low temperatures across Taiwan will be between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius.

Lin Ting-yi mentioned that as the frontal system approaches on the 14th, rainfall in northern regions will increase, and high temperatures will slightly drop. On the 15th, due to rain and the northeast monsoon, high temperatures in central and northern areas will slightly drop to 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, with little change in other regions.

Lin Ting-yi reminded that from tomorrow until the 13th, Matsu and Kinmen are prone to low clouds or localized fog. From tonight to early tomorrow morning, areas north of Tainan, and early morning on the 11th, areas north of Taoyuan, are prone to low clouds or localized fog, affecting visibility.
