Former U.S. President Trump recently posted on the social media platform "Truth Social," stating that if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, he will attack Iranian power plants and bridges on Tuesday.
Regarding Trump's plan, European Council President Antonio Costa issued a statement on the social media platform X on the 6th, emphasizing that only through diplomatic means can the root causes of the problem be thoroughly resolved.
Costa warned the U.S. that attacking infrastructure vital to civilian life, especially energy facilities, is illegal and unacceptable. This principle applies to Russia's war against Ukraine, and it applies equally everywhere in the world. Iranian civilians are victims under the Iranian regime, and if military actions further escalate, they will also become the primary victims of the war.
He also urged Iran to immediately cease attacks on countries in the region and to fully restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Costa reiterated that escalating the situation will not lead to a ceasefire and peace; the goal can only be achieved through negotiations, especially those currently led by regional partners. (Edited by: Hsieh Yi-hsuan) 1150406
