The Kaohsiung City Government’s Agriculture Bureau has partnered with Singapore’s leading retailer, FairPrice, to launch the "2026 Taiwan Agricultural Festival – Kaohsiung’s Best Week." Agriculture Bureau Director Yao Chih-wang led a delegation to Singapore today to attend the opening ceremony alongside Wu Wen-ling, Wu Wen-chung (Head of the Economic Division of the Representative Office in Singapore), and Liu Chien-fei (Director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Singapore).
According to a press release from the Kaohsiung Agriculture Bureau, the promotion of these agricultural specialties kicked off at the FairPrice NEX branch. Echoing the recent baseball craze in Taiwan, the event began with a ceremonial first pitch.
Yao Chih-wang stated that this campaign features a selection of Kaohsiung’s premium produce, including guavas, honey dates, wax apples, papayas, and the specialty vegetable "white water snowflake" (Yelian). The initiative aims to strengthen consumer awareness of Kaohsiung’s agriculture through dedicated displays, tastings, and interactive on-site introductions.
In his remarks, Wu Wen-ling noted that Taiwan and Singapore have been trusted partners for many years. This friendship is reflected in their close economic cooperation and the wide variety of Taiwanese agricultural products found in Singaporean supermarkets.
He pointed out that in 2025, Taiwan became Singapore’s largest global trading partner and top source of imports, surpassing China and Malaysia—a clear testament to the strong bilateral partnership. Currently, over 80% of the trade structure is concentrated in semiconductors and high-tech products, while agricultural trade represents a smaller portion. As a highly open small economy, Singapore relies on imports for over 90% of its food supply.
Wu added that Singapore imports more than US$18 billion in agricultural and food products annually, with approximately US$1 billion consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables. In 2025, Singapore’s purchases of Taiwanese processed foods, pastries, beverages, and produce totaled US$130 million, of which fresh produce accounted for about US$9 million. This highlights the significant untapped market potential for Taiwan’s high-quality fresh produce and processed agricultural goods in Singapore. (Editor: Chen Cheng-kung) April 10, 2026
