Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage: Changhua Fire Bureau Joint Inspection Strengthens Firecracker Management

The Dajia Mazu 9-day, 8-night pilgrimage is scheduled to depart at 10:05 PM on the 17th, with the procession expected to enter Changhua City from Dadu Bridge in the afternoon of the 18th.

The Fire Bureau stated in a press release today that the setting off of firecrackers and fireworks should avoid crowded areas or places with frequent human traffic. In past pilgrimage periods, some individuals have violated regulations, leading to air pollution and noise disturbances, and even causing burns, injuries, or fires.

To reduce risks, the Fire Bureau has conducted outreach to 82 temples and 35 village chief offices within the county, promoting the replacement of traditional firecrackers with methods such as clapping, electronic sounds, or artistic performances. Concurrently, a joint inspection mechanism has been established with the Changhua County Police Bureau to enhance patrols along the route and security in key areas, while also strengthening checks on violations such as the use of firecrackers on flatbed trucks or cranes.

According to the Changhua County Regulations on Firecracker and Firework Discharge Control, firecrackers and fireworks are prohibited from 10 PM to 6 AM daily. Violators may be fined between NT$30,000 and NT$150,000. The Fire Bureau stated that 82 warning notices were issued and 3 complaints were received during last year's pilgrimage.
